Tillicoultry Quarries in Scotland chooses flexibility and quality with a new Metso mobile jaw crusher

Tillicoultry Quarries‘ Northfield quarry in Scotland recently received its Metso Lokotrack® LT120(TM) mobile jaw crusher plant through Garriock Bros. Ltd., Metso’s official dealer in Scotland, England and Wales. The new crusher will be used for production at Tillicoultry’s quarries, ensuring higher flexibility and capacity.

“We have a healthy mobile processing fleet, albeit our largest jaws are mainly used for recycling and some primary processing. The Lokotrack LT120 will give us the capacity and mobility we need to ensure full flexibility in all applications”, says Mr. Andrew Shakeshaft, Area Production Manager at Tillicoultry Quarries.

“The LT120 matches our specifications, comes with a top-end reputation in terms of quality and has been proven in hard rock applications,” he continues.

Tillicoultry Quarries is continuing to invest in furthering its ambitious growth plans. Maintaining a sustainable supply to all external customers and internally added value product lines are the main drivers. Therefore, flexibility is key. Initially deployed to crush basalt at their Northfield Quarry, the final destination of the new mobile crusher will be varied across the hard rock quarries for development workings and supplement fixed processes with additional volume capacity when required. Northfield Quarry specializes in aggregates, asphalt and concrete. Normally operating a single shift, it is one of the largest operations in Scotland.

Tillicoultry Quarries was established in 1931 at Craigfoot Quarry. The family-owned company is one of the largest suppliers of asphalt in Central Scotland. Today, Mr. Wallace Menzies, the 3rd generation of Menzies, leads the company with 9 operational units. Over the last 10 years, the company has expanded significantly with acquisitions.

Garriock Bros. Ltd has been Metso’s distributor for more than 10 years. The company started in 1975 as a small family joinery firm in Westerwick in the Shetland Islands, and has since grown, diversified and matured into one of the biggest privately owned companies in Scotland. In 2005 they were appointed an official dealer for Metso in Scotland, and in 2011 for the whole of England and Wales.
