Mabey achieves BIM Level 2 Certification for Design and Construction

Leading bridge and engineering services specialist Mabey today announces that its UK Hire business has achieved BIM Level 2 certification for Design and Construction.

This certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI) is earned by companies which embrace new digital technologies to constantly refine ways of working and deliver complex infrastructure projects more quickly, safely and efficiently.

Mabey has met the PAS 1192-2 Tier 2 subcontractor requirements, demonstrating it has the compliant systems, processes and engineers which can reduce uncertainty, speed up delivery, minimise errors and reduce on-site waste. Certification also puts Mabey in a prime position to tender for BIM Level 2 projects and UK government contracts.

The company’s digital engineering team was recognised by BSI for its understanding of BIM Level 2 and how using this process can enable both organisations and individuals to collaborate.

Dave Holland, Engineering Director for Mabey’s UK Hire division, said, “This certification is a major step forward for our business, helping us to take on more ambitious projects, particularly in the public sector. We are extremely proud of this achievement, which demonstrates how our team has not just been experimenting with new technology and industry-first techniques, but has been applying new processes to solve customer challenges more quickly, safely and efficiently.”

Andy Butterfield, Director of Built Environment, Product Certification at BSI said, “By achieving verification certification, Mabey has demonstrated its commitment to being compliant with the requirements for PAS 1192-2 covering Design and Construction for BIM Level 2, as detailed in the Construction Prequalification Questionnaire document – PAS 91. The team should be very proud of this achievement and will now be benefitting from improved collaboration right across the supply chain.”

From creating families with detailed geometry, data and functionality, to integrating real-time data from infrastructure monitors, advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM) is transforming the way that Mabey engineers work and collaborate. Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are also bringing Mabey’s design solution closer to the client with immersive 3D environments to aid design and better communicate complex solutions.
